My son and the uncanny valley.

My oldest son is deathly afraid of any stuffed animal that moves on its own and or talks on its own. My only conclusion to this is that the "animal" in question crosses the uncanny valley in my sons eyes. My youngest son (only 10 months behind my oldest) has no problem with any stuffed animal and even finds the movements and sounds entertaining. Why is this? Could it have something to do with intellect or lack thereof? As far as I can remember he has always been afraid of such "animals". We first got him a talking Barney when he was a few months old. In its inactive state he had no issue with it. But once the hand was pressed it would sing the "I love You" song and his mouth would move then it would freak my son out. So, we don't get or accept "animals" that move and or talk.

Just an interesting aspect on my oldest sons behavior. I hope he doesn't grow up having a fear of these "animals". I am sure it will pass.
